Macclesfield folk never cease to amaze me. In just one edition of the Express we have a criminal telling magistrates he won’t do community service because  the weather’s cold and a young mum fraudulently claiming benefits that were actually £64 a week LESS than those to which she was entitled.

Since when did criminals get to determine their own sentence?

The young lady who set out to defraud the Department of Work and Pensions was actually doing them a favour. Claiming the correct amount would have cost taxpayers an extra £3,000. Unbelievably she was ordered to do the community work that the criminal refused.

Why didn’t they just let her continue the fraud? It would have saved taxpayers thousands.

You couldn’t make this stuff up could you? No wonder I love this town.
