HUNDREDS of people across Wilmslow paid their respects today as a two-minute silence was held to mark Armistice Day.

At the Sainsbury's supermarket, on Alderley Road shoppers remembered fallen servicemen, when at exactly 11am the store manager annouced there would be a silence and people bowed their heads.

Manager Steve Morris said it was right to hold a silence to honour those who have fought in past and present conflicts.

He said: "We held a silence on Remembrance Sunday and today because it is probably more importanct to do so now than it has ever been with the number of soldiers still getting injured in conflicts and losing their lives.

"It was fantastic to see so many customers standing still and and remaining silent in recognition of Armistice Day."
