WHILE Big Brother may be over, another reality show has been filmed on the town’s doorstep.

TV channel MTV has been producing its latest reality show, Living On The Edge, based on teenagers living in Alderley Edge village.

The series follows the lives of a group of 18-year-olds from Alderley Edge living their last summer before they all head off to university.

Depicted as living in a playground for the rich and famous, the series follows the highs and lows, the parties and the drama, the celebrations and commiserations of the group as they sit their exams and share their last summer together.

For the ten teens filmed, this time of change, discovery and of growing up, is panned out under the lens over eight episodes.

Assistant producer Rebecca Hall said those watching it will not be sure whether they are watching actors or real people.

She said: "Our group have let us have total access into their thoughts and actions for the whole summer, so there has never been the need to construct the drama.

"It’s already there.

"The beauty of Life On The Edge is that the characters in it are all 100 per cent real people whose real life is being unveiled before the cameras.

"There are no actors to be sniffed for miles."

The idea for the programme came from US drama The O.C. and spiralled from there into reality spin-off Laguna Beach.

Rebecca said: "Laguna Beach was such a hit for MTV both in America and here, that MTV were interested to see if they could make a UK version too."

Lime Pictures, which has produced soap and dramas including Holly Oaks and Grange Hill, was commissioned to produce the series.

It is a new venture for the company which has not undertaken observational documentary TV programmes before.

Rebecca said the first two episodes are particularly explosive. She added: "They’ll have you hooked for the rest of the series."

Living On The Edge starts with a double episode on Sunday, October 14, at 8pm on MTV.
