The son of Manchester United legend Brian McClair has followed his father's footsteps by netting an appearance at Old Trafford.

But rather than dazzling supporters with his silky football skills, 22-year-old Liam wowed the crowd with his music.

An aspiring singer songwriter Liam had his track ‘How’ played at half time when United took on Southampton on October 19.

Liam, who was a member of United’s youth academy, said: “It is unbelievable really. I am still pinching myself about it.

“To have one of my songs played to so many people was a dream come true.”

Liam’s dad Brian played for United between 1987 and 1998, netting 127 goals and winning four league titles, three FA Cups and the UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup.

He is currently the director of United’s youth academy.

Liam, of Summerfields, Wilmslow , added: "Having family ties with Manchester United makes it even more special. Hopefully it helps the fans to relate and engage in my music and it means I am the second McClair to get played at Old Trafford.

“It has certainly been the biggest thing I have done with my music and the most exciting.”

Liam hadn’t always wanted to be a music star. He spent many years dreaming of becoming a professional footballer and was signed to United youth academy. But injuries put an end to his dream.

Since then he has been focusing on his music.

Liam released his debut EP, How, in June and has performed more than 70 gigs in the last year including appearances at Liverpool’s Sound City Festival and Salford Music Festival. To listen to Liam’s music visit his Facebook page.
