The Silkmen take on the Championship side in the third round at Moss Rose today (Saturday, January 4).

If Macclesfield win, the club will move into the fourth round – and bank £67,500.

Every penny is needed to rouse the club from a financial straits that puts its very future in doubt.

Coun Michael Jones believes the Silkmen, who are the lowest-ranked team left in the competition, have every chance of succeeding.

He said: “We’ve every confidence that Macclesfield can do it – and we’re urging everyone to get behind them. I certainly am.

“We all know that the club has gone through some difficult patches, largely due to its financial position, but we’re hoping this could be a huge boost to the club’s coffers.

“There’s a buzz about the club and they’re on great form.

“They’ve scored 14 goals in the FA cup to-date and have conceded only two and the fact that they’re playing on home turf, the feeling is they could just do it.”

Barrie Darcey, director at Macc Town, said the club appreciated Cheshire East Council’s support.

He said: “The FA Cup is a welcome boost for the club, both financially and for team moral. The exposure the FA Cup brings from the media can only help the Silkmen do well in the future.”

Sheffield Wednesday fans have snapped up the entire away allocation of 2,300 tickets for the tie, so once again the Macclesfield Express is sending out an S.O.S to fans calling on them to ‘Support Our Silkmen’ and go to the game. Tickets for the match cost £5 for under-12s, £10 for under-18s, £16 for concessions, and £20 for adults (seated) or £16 (terraces).

They are available from the club or Macclesfield Tourist Information Centre at the Town Hall.
