Maxonians are being encouraged to holiday at home this summer – and we want your snaps.

Macclesfield MP David Rutley has launched a campaign to celebrate local tourist attractions and encourage more residents to champion their favourite hotspots.

To back the campaign, the Macclesfield Express is calling on people to share pictures of themselves enjoying local attractions – whether it is making a weekly trip to the Heritage Centre or heading over to Jodrell Bank to learn about the stars – and tweet about their visits.

Mr Rutley has joined forces with Marketing Cheshire and Jodrell Bank and came up with the idea to encourage more visitors to Macclesfield and Cheshire East and boost the local economy.

He said: “Macclesfield is the ideal base for exploring the attractions of Cheshire East from great stately homes like Capesthorne Hall, Lyme Park and Gawsworth Hall to outstanding industrial heritage like Anson Engine Museum and the iconic Jodrell Bank.

“They’re all great places for families to explore and enjoy.

“It’s also the perfect location to start a tour around the Cheshire Peak District, which offers some of the most stunning countryside in Britain.”

He added: “I will be working with Marketing Cheshire and Make It Macclesfield to raise awareness about the great days out on our doorstep, so that visitors can enjoy all that this part of the world has to offer, thanks to its breathtaking wonderful countryside, rich heritage and its delicious local food and drink.”

Dr Teresa Anderson, director of Jodrell Bank Discovery Centre, said: “At Jodrell Bank we are all very clear that Cheshire East is a fabulous place to live, work, study and visit. We are delighted to be supporting David Rutley’s initiative to raise the profile of the area and will be working alongside colleagues at Marketing Cheshire to promote the delights of Cheshire.”
