AN Alderley Edge-based charity shop has gone up in the world after relocating from number 40 to number 71 London Road.

Well-loved actress and Marie Curie supporter Denise Welch was on hand to cut the ribbon for the official opening of the new Marie Curie Cancer Care shop in the village.

Denise was joined by Marie Curie nurse Margaret Watchorn, who helps terminally ill people spend their final days with dignity, surrounded by the people and things they love the most, as she unveiled the sparkling new branch.

The new shop, which replaces the old one at 40 London Road, will raise funds to provide Marie Curie Nurses, who care for terminally ill people in their own homes in the Alderley Edge area.

Denise, known for her role as Steph Haydock in Waterloo Road and a regular on Loose Women, welcomed shoppers into the new store after cutting the ribbon outside the shop.

The new store is bigger and brighter and offers customers an even wider range of new stock, including picture frames, cushions and vases, as well as a variety of accessories.

Denise, who supports the charity and has frequently bought party frocks and other items from the Alderley branch, said: "I was delighted to open this fantastic new Marie Curie Cancer Care shop.

"Everything you spend in the shop will help provide Marie Curie nurses, who offer such wonderful care for terminally ill people in their own homes.

"Their support means people can spend their final days with dignity, surrounded by the people they love the most.

"I would urge people to support their shop – it helps provide such an essential local service."

Marie Curie nurse Margaret Watchorn, said: "There are lots of ways local people can support their new Marie Curie Cancer Care shop.

"Why not donate some items, buy a gift for someone or a treat for yourself, or give up a few hours to volunteer?

"However you get involved, you will help provide Marie Curie Nurses like me, who care for patients in and around Alderley Edge."

The new shop offers a wide range of high quality donated goods at great value prices, and a small selection of new fashion jewellery and accessories with something to suit everyone.

Staff are looking for volunteers to carry out tasks including sorting, pricing and displaying stock and helping customers.
