Residents are being warned to secure their homes after a spike in burglaries in the town. New figures show there were eight break-ins and one attempted burglary in March.

As a result, officers have been carrying out regular foot patrols and used marked and unmarked vehicles in the area.

They have also been leaflet dropping residents and using social media sites to encourage security measures such as burglar alarms and locking windows, doors and vehicles.

Elsewhere in Poynton, police have been checking vehicle speeds on Middlewood Road and Anglesey Drive following complaints.

No offences were recorded on Middlewich Road but on Anglesey Drive, six of the 203 vehicles which passed through in 50 minutes were exceeding 30mph.

Police officers also recorded three shoplifting offences, five road traffic collisions and four incidents of anti-social behaviour. March also saw a great deal of police interaction with schools as officers visited to  teach children about staying safe, bullying, home security and how to use the internet safely.

PCSO Christopher Luke and PC Andy Barron were at Poynton High School with a parents’ group giving a talk called, Drug Proof Your Kids.

This gave parents the chance to discuss any concerns they may have with regards to drugs.

Year nine pupils at the school also received a talk about the consequences  of drinking and anti-social behaviour, while Year 11 students have helped the community move bricks, planting bulbs and paint over graffiti.

Area officers have also been attending the Social youth group to encourage youths not to be out on the street at night, while PCSO Luke has also been carrying out free bike marking sessions.
