The search is on for the best buildings completed in the last year.

The Macclesfield Civic Awards Scheme is an annual celebration of notable developments which took place over the past year – and a few lesser known ones.

Previous winners have included parks, buildings, renovations, extensions, boundary walls and conservation schemes.

The awards are run Macclesfield Civic Society which are looking for good design and preservation or enhancement of the character of the town.

The size and scale of the work, appropriateness for its setting and the promotion of the history, identity and distinctiveness of Macclesfield will also be considered.

Keith Smith, chairman of Macclesfield Civic Society, said: “The winners won’t get a statue, lifetime celebrity status or even a feature in Hello but there will be lots of recognition for a job well done, a handy commendation and, if especially good, a trendy ceramic plaque to hang on the wall – so plenty to play for.”

Nominations need to be made by February 28 by emailing keith76079smith @yahoo.com. The winners will be announced at a ceremony at the Heritage Centre on April 19.
