Members of Macclesfield Rugby Club will be among those remembering the town’s fallen at Remembrance Services in the town.

The club will also unveil a memorial to honour the 13 former players who died in the Second World War.

Remembrance Sunday, which falls on 13 November 2016, is a day for the nation to remember and honour those who have sacrificed themselves for the country.

The rugby club will commemorate the sacrifice of 13 former players at a special ceremony at 1pm, and will unveil a Roll of Honour during the service.

Jonathan Marsh, business director at the club, said: “We will have a small ceremony with local dignitaries and some players in attendance. We are also looking for relatives, however distant, who may want to come and join us.”

In Macclesfield a Remembrance Parade will march through the town centre before a wreath is laid at the Cenotaph. The parade will assemble at the rear of the Town Hall Offices at 10.15am and march to the Cenotaph at Park Green in time for two minutes’ silence at 11am.

The wreath-laying ceremony will be followed by the Service of Remembrance. At the end of the Service, the procession will re-form and march back, past the front of the Town Hall where the Mayor will take the Salute. Everyone is welcome to gather at the Cenotaph at Park Green for the Service.

Bollington’s Remembrance Parade will also take place on Sunday, November 13, with a special concert in the evening.

The parade, led by Bollington Brass Band, will leave Bollington Recreation Ground at 10.35am for a service at the memorial gardens at 10.55am.

At 7pm there will be performances from Bollington Brass Band and Whaley Bridge Male Voice Choir at the Methodist Church. Tickets available from Bollington Town Hall priced £10.

On Friday, November 11, at 11am, members of the Macclesfield Branch of the Royal British Legion will attend a remembrance event at the Town Hall. A Remembrance concert in aid of the Poppy Appeal, with Macclesfield Male Voice Choir, will take place at the Methodist Church at 7.30pm. Tickets cost £8 from the Royal British Legion on Chestergate or on the door.
