Eleven parents have asked for their children to be transferred to different high schools after the uncertain future of Macclesfield High was revealed.

The school could be taken over by Tytherington High School under plans to get rid of empty places at the Macclesfield school.

Now 10 requests for children to swap to other schools away from Macclesfield High have been made to the admission department at Cheshire East Council.

One change of preference has also been made by a pupil at Tytherington wishing to study at All Hallows.

An informal consultation was launched by cabinet member for Children and Family Services Councillor Hilda Gaddum at a public meeting on June 24.

The aim was to look at potential solutions to eradicate surplus places at Macclesfield High.

The process included a proposal for Tytherington High School to take over Macclesfield High School.

Of the 10 requests to the council, eight asked to be considered at All Hallows, one at Fallibroome, and one at Eaton Bank in Congleton.

A spokeswoman for Cheshire East Council confirmed that following June 14, when the announcement was made, 10 ‘changes of preference’ were made.

She said: "The term ‘change of preference’ is used for administrative purposes. This term can relate to a host of issues, including; change of address, break-up of relationships and appeal results for other schools. Late applications are often made for similar reasons. A change of preference or late application does not automatically mean a child is displeased with the school they have been offered."

Tony Billings, headteacher at All Hallows, confirmed the school had received enquiries about late applications following the announcement.

He said: "We understand that the local high school provisions are going to change and we intend to be supportive of the area and parents. We understand the parents need to secure a good education for their children."

A further student destined for Fallibroome has also changed their preference to a Manchester school.

Last year 26 children made late applications or changed their minds over which school they wished to attend after the application date was closed, and before the school year started.
