The Post Office is consulting on plans to move the Alderley Edge branch to the Co-op shop in the village.

The consultation will be welcome news to campaigners who feared Alderley Edge may lose the post office which was been without a permanent postmaster for months.

Now Post Office Ltd has announced a consultation on plans to move the unit to the Co-op across the road on The Parade.

Parish council chairman Mike Williamson said:  “This is good news, anyone in their right mind would be delighted the Post Office can be saved.

“People should get in touch with the Post Office and have their say.”

A Post Office spokeswoman said a permanent postmaster has been appointed.

She said:  “Our priority is to safeguard services to the community in the longer term.

“Customers would benefit from level entry to the premises, low-level facilities for wheelchair users, an on-site convenience store and will still be able to collect benefits in cash using our everyday banking services or Post Office card account.”

The consultation will close on June 21 and the move will go ahead this summer if approved.
