The election between a committed follower of Wilmslow Town Council and a former borough councillor is now just a week away.

Independent Dave Cash, who has attended each meeting since the town council formed, and Conservative Adrian Bradley are going head to head for the vacant seat on the Wilmslow East ward of Wilmslow Town Council.

Mr Cash has lived in Wilmslow for 39 years since joining ICI at Alderley Park and is semi retired after a sales and marketing career in pharmaceutical companies.

He said standing was the right thing to do: "I’m standing because several residents feel there should be an election, rather than 14 Conservative members co-opting someone.

"I have the time to devote to the role and raise an alternative voice.

"The town council will have increasing commitments as Cheshire East devolves more responsibilities and residents should tell the council what they want."

Adrian Bradley, who lives on Handforth Road with his wife Margaret, has lived in Wilmslow for 30 years and was a finance manager at Ford.

The grandfather of four was a councillor on Macclesfield Borough Council and Cheshire County Council between 1998 and 2009.

He said he would relish the challenge of representing the town council: "I believe I can serve Wilmslow on the back of my experience and already have a good working relationship with the councillors.

"I think the vision for the Local Plan is tremendously important." The election is on Thursday, April 12.
