GEORGE Clooney, Rachel Weisz and the showbiz glitterati enjoyed a taste of Alderley Edge at this week's Oscars.

They toasted their golden gongs with luxury chocs supplied by the village's exclusive chocolatier.

For the stars and their entourage it was gliterring frocks and gold-dusted chocs when delectable goodies supplied by the village's Chocolate Trading Company were dished out.

Winner and losers alike enjoyed the red carpet treatment, tucking into the superior quality chocolates made from Venezuelan cocoa with a dark chocolate ganache centre and sprinkled with edible 22 carat gold leaf flakes.

One of the company's most prestigious orders yet, it was the taste of sweet success when they dispatched 40 kilos of the sumptuous chocs to Tinseltown.

Spokesman Christine Munro said: "A catering company from Hollywood placed the order and said they were going to use them for the Oscars.

"So we sent 20 cases about three weeks ago."

Fortunately the chocolatiers have become accustomed to large orders from the United States and ensured taste and quality was up to scratch, transporting them by courier over the Atlantic within five days.

And they clearly went down a treat.

Pregnant British actress and Oscar winner Rachel Weisz was spotted heading for the kitchen at the award ceremony telling Sky One's Jamie Theakston: "Chocolate is what I want! That's my drug of choice for tonight."

With over 3,000 of the dark chocs at the bash, there should have been plenty around to satisfy her cravings.

With the retail price of the order costing in the region of £4,000, this should be well affordable to the millionaire likes of George and co.

And the company hope they will be hooked and become customers.

Christine remarked: "We haven't heard from George or any other stars yet, but hopefully we will!"
