A superfit nonagenarian went the extra mile to raise funds for Sport Relief at the weekend.

Ninety-year-old Ivy Allcock along with her two pals Jean Halsall, 77, and Winnie Hughes, 83, from Gwyneth Morley Court, in Handforth joined in the fundraising fun by taking part in the Gatley Sports Relief mile on Sunday.

The trio of pensioners raised more than £100 for the charity.

Ivy, originally from Manchester, has always been a keen hiker and is still very active in the community.

Susan Heyes, Gwyneth Morley Court scheme manager who has been helping to co-ordinate the fundraising events, said: "Ivy used to belong to a rambling club many years ago and has always enjoyed walking.  She is a very fit lady who always tries to get out and walk and she decided she wanted to do this for Sport Relief. Ivy is always up for something like this and is willing to give something back to the community; she’s a very kind woman. She is also a keen member of St Chad’s Church, in Handforth and is very active there."

Staff at Gwyneth Morley Court sheltered housing complex, on Church Road, also held a raffle for Sport Relief and, for the last month, they have been asking residents and visitors to put their spare change in a bucket left in the corridor.

Susan added: "We have been fundraising for the past month and then these three women decided that they wanted to take part in the Gatley mile to raise even more money for the cause. They are absolutely amazing and managed to push the total raised by us to more than £200."
