A motorist was banned after driving to Tesco while high on cocaine and sedatives, a court heard.

Timothy Edward Shaw, 41, was pulled over by police in the early hours after his tyre blew on the Silk Road in Macclesfield.

When officers spoke to the defendant he “slurred his speech”, the town's magistrates were told.

He did not have any booze in his system, but urine tests showed he had traces of cocaine and diazepam in his body.

Shaw, of Palmerston Street, Bollington, pleaded guilty to driving whilst unfit through drugs and and a charge of driving with no insurance.

Macclesfield magistrates heard how the defendant was stopped at around 3.40am on December 6, last year, after a patrol officer saw his wheel was scraping on the road.

He was arrested and police found he did not have proper car insurance.

Peter Malone, defending, said that Shaw had a number of health problems, and added: “He accepts the prosecution's case, and regrets being before you in court.”

Shaw, who is jobless, was disqualified for 21 months, and fined £100 and ordered to pay £85 court costs.
