Police are investigating after an unsuspecting bargain hunter was conned out of thousands of pounds at a car boot sale.

The man, 43, paid nearly £4,000 for laptops and electronic equipment including iPhones and an ipad at the sale in Wilmslow on Sunday.

He saw and even tested the products before purchasing them using cash.

The offender helped pack the items before offering to take them to the victim's car.

However, the man, from Manchester, later discovered the items were not in their boxes and the bags were filled with rocks and cardboard.

He phoned the offender who said he'd return the money in the next five minutes, but he never appeared.

The victim then phoned police.

Officers are looking into whether there have been any similar incidents across Cheshire and the North West.
