Travellers can now use their mobile phones to board trains at Macclesfield Station - bringing an end to lost train tickets.

The Trainline, an online ticket retailer, says customers travelling along the Manchester Piccadilly to London Euston Route - which includes Macclesfield, Wilmslow, Crewe and Stockport - can now use their smartphone to buy an ‘mTicket’, which can be bought and downloaded on the day without the need for a physical ticket collection.

Customers could already buy an mTicket from Manchester to London, but the changes mean they can also use them for shorter journeys.

Clare Gilmartin, CEO of Trainline, says: “Response to mobile ticketing has been very positive and it’s something the whole industry is working on together to promote a smarter and more efficient experience for train travellers. By bringing this new service to all stations on the line, thousands more train travellers every month will have access to mobile ticketing, allowing them to skip the queues at train stations or collection points each morning by simply presenting their smartphone at the barriers.”

mTickets can be bought from thetrainline.com.
