A PUB landlady is hosting a live music event for the Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund in memory of her mum.

Wendy Ann Smith has arranged the ‘Swanload Festival’ at the Swan With Two Necks over the bank holiday weekend in honour of her mother, known as ‘Nanny Grace’, who died from the disease.

The event aims to raise at least £750 with 26 acts over two days, including solo acoustic acts, duets, full bands and a mix of music genres.

All the acts will play for free – with headliners, rock band Silent Slave, being the first band to ever play at the Chestergate pub when Wendy and husband Andrew took over ten years ago.

Wendy said: “The charity is very close to me after losing my mum.”

Because the festival also marks the 10th anniversary of the couple’s time at the pub, the weekend also offers the chance to enjoy your favourite tipple at 2005 prices.

Wendy said: “We want to thank the people in Macclesfield who’ve been so nice to us for the last ten years. Three years has been the limit for us with other pubs we’ve had.”

The venue is well known for hosting touring bands, including ‘The Mokk Lads,’ a Swedish version of the Macc Lads.

The event takes place from 1pm until midnight on Saturday, August 29 and Sunday, August 30 and is free.
