A man has been arrested on suspicion of murdering Robert Hart, who died after being attacked at Parklife festival.

Robert, 26, from Macclesfield, was attacked on the Saturday night of the festival after a row over an inflatable doll.

He was punched to the floor and was taken to hospital, but died four days later of his injuries.

Police revealed they have arrested a 31 year-old man in Cheshire on suspicion of his murder after swooping earlier this morning.

Police and Parklife bosses have thanked the public and the media for their help in the ongoing investigation into the death.

They are still urging people to come forward with any information, pictures or video footage relating to the incident.

Following the incident,  Robert’s family  also made an emotional appeal for his killer to hand themselves in.

An evo-fit was produced of the man wanted for questioning which was widely circulated on social media.

The M.E.N also plastered the image on every billboard outside newsagent’s in the city.

Whilst Parklife offered a £20,000 reward for anyone who came forward with information leading to a conviction.

And they have thanked the public for their reaction.

Detective Inspector Richard Eales said: “Over the last two weeks, we have received a huge amount support by both the public and the media for the appeal to help find the person responsible.

“We now have a man in custody but that doesn’t mean the investigation is at an end.

“We are continuing to investigate and we are renewing our appeal for information or any relevant footage.”

Parklife festival director Sacha Lord-Marchionne said: “We’re delighted someone has been arrested.

“Robert’s death didn’t just devastate his family, it touched 70,000 people who attended the event.

“I cannot begin to imagine what his family are going through.

“I think, as is always the way in Manchester whenever there is a tragedy, the whole community has come together.

“I want to thank every single person who attended the event for their support.

“And also the media for publicising the appeal, especially the M.E.N

“I walked through Manchester and saw the evofit on every single billboard.

“Everyone has been behind it and without their help no doubt we wouldn’t have seen this arrest today.

He added: “We will continue working closely with the police as we have been doing over the past two weeks.”
