A NEW restaurant owner was followed by TV crews documenting the nervous first months of her venture.

Debbie Quinn, 50, and her premises, Salt Bar, on Church Street, feature in a programme about people setting up restaurants, which will air on television today.

Crews for The Restaurant Man on BBC 2 filmed Debbie and her team as they set up the Scandinavian-themed bar, as well as filming at locations including Tegg’s Nose Country Park and Market Place.

The programme features interviews with other business owners and residents.

Debbie, who runs the Treacle Market with Jane Munro, opened her business in August and the film crews recorded her first few months.

Restaurateur Russell Norman, who runs businesses in London, presents the programme and gives Debbie advice.

Debbie, who had not run a bar or restaurant before, said: “It was a tough few months, with film crews watching our every move, but the experience was invaluable.

“They filmed around Macclesfield and it can’t be a bad thing to showcase the town.

“I love Macclesfield and if I have done anything to add to it I’m delighted.”

Salt Bar in Macclesfield

Debbie was inspired to set up the Salt Bar – which serves Scandinavian snacks and meals – after visiting the region, particularly enjoying trips to Stockholm in Sweden.

Debbie, who is married to Bob who is a partner in the business, employed Swedish chef Anders Berglund, who was living between Spain and Norway before coming to Macclesfield.

Debbie said: “I love everything Scandinavian.

“The food and the way of life are wonderful.”

“The food has similarities to British food but with a twist and is all about smoking and pickling.

“I was thinking of setting up a website about Scandinavian food, but decided to go for it with a bar, and I’m glad I did.”

The Restaurant Man is screened today (Wednesday) at 8pm.
