ROUND-the-clock lap dancing is on the way as plans to open a "gentlemen’s club" in Wilmslow are revealed.

Lap dancing club "ST Lounge" is due to open on Grove Street next month to replace "Suede" bar. It has a licence to open every morning and operate until the early hours bringing its brand of "high-class" striptease to the town.

Club boss Pete Tapper promises to attract an "upmarket" and well-behaved clientele - but says he expects his plans will get residents hot-under-the-collar.

Pete, who lives in Staffordshire and runs another lap dancing club in Stoke-on-Trent called "ST1", said: "I know this will generate a lot of interest, both positive and negative. But people have nothing to fear. It will be of interest to customers but also to what I call the ‘blue rinse brigade’ and I imagine I will come up against some opposition in Wilmslow. It will be a full-time lap dancing club but will not cause disruption in the area."

Staffordshire’s answer to Peter Stringfellow, who operates Van Leisure Ltd, wants to put to bed any seedy ideas about lap dancing clubs.

He added: "The perception is a lot worse than the reality. We will attract the higher end of the market, a more mature customer, with a glamorous image. It will be a gentlemen’s club and champagne bar. We are professional, with a lot of experience and are very strict for the girls’ protection and for the surrounding area.Customers are very discreet."

Pete’s ambition became a reality last week when he secured the lease for the premises and he has started work on a complete refurbishment to get ready to open in mid July.

The nightspot will open initially from 8.30pm to 3am on weekdays and 8pm to 3.30am on Friday and Saturday nights.

But the licence, which was already in place at the premises, allows him to open from 10am to 3.30am, from Monday to Thursday, from 10am to 4am, on Friday and Saturday, and from midday to 3.30am on Sunday.
