Residents have another chance to join a guided walk at Lindow Common in its 50th anniversary year.

The rare lowland was named a Site of Special Scientific Importance in 1963.

Cheshire East is working on events to mark the anniversary, including guided walks which continue on Wednesday, May 8, from 10am to midday.

Ranger Paul Hughes will point out areas of natural interest, describe the activities of the wildlife, explain how the heath was formed and the work to protect the valuable site.

Paul said:  “It’s a lowland heath that is rarer than tropical rainforest and a site of national importance.”

Coun Rod Menlove said notices about the area’s importance are in the car parks, a leaflet is in the final stages and new information boards will follow shortly.

Coun Menlove, who chairs the Common Advisory Group, said:  “This 50th anniversary year is a time to recognise the significance of this local jewel.”

Walkers should meet at the car park opposite the Boddington Arms.

Families are welcome but the walk is not suitable for dogs.
