WORKERS at the Macclesfield branch of Phones 4U face losing their jobs after the retailer went into administration.

The chain, which is owned by private equity firm BC Partners, said all of its 550 stores will be closed today (Monday) including the town's branch in the Grosvenor Centre.

Phones 4U blamed the move on the decision of mobile networks EE and Vodafone not to renew its contract.

Almost 5,600 job nationally - including an undisclosed number in Macclesfield and neighbouring Wilmslow - are now at risk.

Staff were told to turn up for work today but their future looks bleak pending a decision by administrators PwC on whether the business can be reopened for trading.

The firm says networks will continue to provide mobile services to these customers - meaning you can continue to use and pay for your phone as normal.

Existing discount deals will be honoured.

Phones 4u also insists that insurance policies taken out with it will be honoured.

Those who need to make a claim on their policy should call 0844 8710535.

Any phones that have been ordered and dispatched can be used as normal.

However, if you have ordered a phone and it has yet to be dispatched then you will be refunded and your order cancelled.
