Almost 500 runners together with their friends and family headed to Gawsworth for the annual 10k cross country run.

It started at the ‘Nine Acre’ field in Gawsworth and included a 5k fun run before everyone headed back to the field for a bbq and entertainment.

The winner of the 10k was Mark Walker of the Macclesfield Harriers, who crossed the finish line with a time of 36m14s.

Andrew Whittingham of Wilmslow Running Club came in second with a time of 38m24s, and Steven Townley, who runs with the Sale Harriers, was hot on Andrew’s heels and finished in 38m40s.

The 5K was won by Lucas Parker with a time of 21m3s, with Stephen Hughes and Alexander Collins in second and third.

Macclesfield MP and keen fell runner David Rutley, who started the races, said: “It was a pleasure to be able to start the Gawsworth10k race again this year, and send a record number of runners on their way. This is a superb event, which raises much needed funds for the community.

“I am particularly grateful that the Bosley appeal was included this year.

“The organisers should be proud of what they have achieved.”

Canalside Radio were again present to provide entertainment on the field and Gawsworth Scouts hosted a BBQ, with the Gawsworth WI providing a host of delicious cakes for their stall.

Jane Curley, who is on the organising committee, said: “The race organisers are very grateful to Mr and Mrs Goda for the use of their field to stage the event, to Mr Tim Richards for the use of the Hall car park, to St Johns Ambulance who were the nominated first aiders and to the 25 course marshals who ensure the safety of the runners around the course.”
