A teenager from Poynton has qualified for the national finals of the British Schools’ Biathlon Championships.

Harris Leah, 14, a student at Poynton High School, has reached the UK finals after finishing in the top six in the semi-finals of the competition, held in Liverpool.

As well as receiving a trophy for his efforts Harris, who swims and trains with the Satellites of Macclesfield Swimming Club and runs regularly in the local area, can now look forward to competing for the North West at Crystal Palace on Sunday (March 27).

The championship is the culmination of a series of competitions held around the country and is open to all schools in Great Britain.

It is a competition which comprises a 100m swim followed by a 1km run and Harris has been training hard to achieve the best times possible.

Jeremy Thompson, Head of PE at Poynton High School said: "Harris is a brilliant all-round athlete and we are all very proud of his achievements. We wish him lots of success in the championships at Crystal Palace."
