Royal British Legion branches are preparing their annual memorial services for those who gave their lives for their country in the two world wars and other conflicts.

And after the encouraging turn out last year officials are once again urging members of the community to join in the Remembrance tribute.

This year Remembrance Sunday falls on November 13 and as usual the Royal British Legion in Wilmslow, Handforth, Alderley Edge and Styal will gatherto pay tribute.

A parade of Wilmslow’s ex-servicemen will march from the Legion Club on Grove Avenue at 9.30am and arrive at Wilmslow Parish Church for a 10am service.

The procession will then gather at 11am for a two minute silence and the wreath laying ceremony in the Garden of Remembrance.

It will then head back to the British Legion for refreshments.

Handforth Royal British Legion’s service will be held at St Chad’s Church at 10.30am.

A wreath will be laid in the Garden of Remembrance at the club headquarters on Station Road.

In Alderley Edge a two minutes silence will be held at 11am outside Barclays bank on London Road on Saturday, November 12.

Then on Sunday, November 13 the Royal British Legion at Alderley Edge will be joined by the chairman of Alderley Edge Parish Council, scouts, guides, brownies and cubs, and Bollington Air Cadets band for a parade from Festival Hall at 2.30pm.

They will march along Moss Lane, Trafford Road and Chapel Road and down London Road to the war memorial on Ryleys Lane.

Following prayers and the wreath laying ceremony, a Service of Remembrance will be held at St Philip and St James Church at 3pm.

This year’s service will be conducted by Father Matthew Thomas, priest at St Pius X Church.

And residents in Styal will gather for a two minute silence at Styal cenotaph at 12pm on November 13.
