A BOY who dropped his trousers and 'mooned' at a female teacher from the back of a bus was right to be excluded from school.

The claim came from borough councillor John Barber who supported the head of Poynton High School Mark Wasserberg who banished Michael Jones, 15, for five days from classrooms as a result of his out-of-school prank.

"Head teachers have tremendous problems maintaining respect from pupils to teachers in and out of school," Coun Barber said. "Acts like this have to be dealt with.

"It not only a head's job either to teach children respect, it is a parent's too."

Michael Jones was excluded after he dropped his pants and exposed his bare bottom to a female teacher who was travelling in a car behind.

She was horrified and instantly reported the matter to police who gave the boy a warning.

Mother Julie Jones has condemned the expulsion imposed after he returned home from holiday, claiming her son had been punished twice for his misdemeanour.

She said: "We feel like he is getting punished twice. I was told that anything happening outside school had nothing to go with the school itself.

But headteacher Mark Wasserberg disagreed and excluded the boy.

This week he refused to comment over the issue and would only confirm: "A student has been excluded for a fixed term of five days for 'mooning' at a member of staff in front of other students."

But he did say: "The mother may now appeal to school governors."

A spokeswoman for Cheshire County Council, the local education authority, would only confirm the punishment.
