OUT on a shopping trip in Manchester, the last thing Hayley Goodhead expected to pick up was a career in modelling.

While perusing the shops with her mum, the student from Alderley Edge was tapped on the shoulder by super-WAG Coleen McLoughlin – with camera crew in tow – for her ITV talent search show, Coleen’s Real Women.

In the last episode in the series, hair care firm Schwarzkopf briefed Coleen to find five real women to fit their range of Supersoft shampoos and conditioners. Hayley’s distinct, long, lustrous hair caught Coleen’s eye, and the 19-year-old found herself joining a long line of wannabes at a model casting in London.

The computing for business student agreed to go along because she liked the idea of the show, where Coleen pitches "real women" to front the advertising and publicity campaigns for leading fashion and beauty brands instead of stick-thin models. Hayley said: "I wasn’t sure about it when I was scouted, I’ve never wanted to be a model. But when I realised the programme was about getting away from size zeros I thought it was a really good message to get out there."

The Leeds University student was picked from obscurity to eventually front a modelling campaign for Schwarzkopf’s new Supersoft Smoothies products.

Hayley’s super hair, super style and super smile saw her be unanimously chosen as the face of Supersoft Yoghurt and Coconut Smoothie for treating dry and damaged hair, as their ‘Active Babe’ over professional models in the industry.

Hayley said: "I was thrilled to be chosen to represent Supersoft. It’s been a whirlwind couple of weeks since I found out I had won, with photoshoots and magazine features in the pipeline. It’s so exciting though, I still can’t believe it."

Supersoft brand manager, Jo Blackmore, said: "Hayley was exactly what we were looking for.The selection panel agreed that Hayley was the perfect Active Babe. Not only is her hair wonderfully thick and glossy, she is really active and always on the go, as well as having a fantastic personality and very outgoing."

But what happens after the cameras stop rolling?

For Hayley, it’s been a case of going straight back to reality with no plans to take to the catwalk again.

Hayley can be seen as Schwarzkopf’s Active Babe campaign in glossy magazines this month.
