TWO frogmen were told to 'hoppit!' when they were caught in the shopping centre leaping around in snorkels.

It did not take too much imagination to spot a holiday connection as the pair were also sporting armbands and rubber rings.

But before they could take the plunge and really get in the swim of things they were shooed away by one of the Grosvenor Centre traders.

Nigel Clucas, 22 and Lee Kaye, 18, claimed they were followed by Grosvenor Centre security for a few minutes before being chased out.

They said they couldn't work out why they were being chased but decided to run anyway.

Nigel said: "I'm just not sure they liked the look of my ring."

Lee said: "We were only trying to warm up people's January by giving away a holiday in the sun."

It turns out the lads were not on day release from a psychiatric unit but were actually Galaxy 102 Ground Crew members promoting a holiday giveaway for the radio station.

Ian Barclay, 37, who manages the National Lottery kiosk, said: "We couldn't find a member of security so I stepped in to help out. If the security men are busy doing something else they are not going to drop it for a couple of guys giving away holidays."

Ian added: "The funny thing is, I volunteer for Glastonbury CND who have been helping with security at the festival for the last 20 years, so I'm used to letting people in, not kicking them out!"

Grosvenor Centre manager Peter Luty said: "It certainly wasn't our security staff who chased them out!"

"Anyone doing promotions has to ask permission first because it is a privately-owned shopping centre - people usually ask out of courtesy anyway.

"The security guys, who are in plain clothes, told me that they saw them but they left them to it because they weren't doing anything wrong."
