THE gardens at Gawsworth Hall will be the setting for one of the biggest Golden Jubilee celebrations in the area.

More than 100 members of the Inner Wheel and Rotary Clubs of Cheshire, Derbyshire, Staffordshire, Lancashire and Greater Manchester, and their families, have been invited to attend a 1950s fancy dress picnic.

It has been organised by local members of the Inner Wheel, which is one of the largest women's organisations in the world.

One of the organisers, Lin Armstrong, said: "The Queen is the patron of the Inner Wheel so we felt it was very important to do something as a mark of respect."

Lin, of London Road, Macclesfield, said when the idea of a picnic was suggested she thought Gawsworth Hall would be the perfect setting.

The event takes place on Sunday, June 9, and starts with a short service of celebration, which is being led by Bishop William.

Then Inner Wheel and Rotary members will tuck into their picnics to the strains of Macclesfield Silk Brass.

There will also be entertainment from the Merrymen Jazz Band as well as games, face painting and a balloon man for the children.

Communities and organisations throughout the borough have been busy organising their celebrations to mark the occasion.

In the latest round of Golden Jubilee funding Macclesfield Borough Council dished out over £10,000 in grants ranging from £50 to £400 to 51 groups.

Lucky recipients so far include Wildboarclough Rose Queen Fete, Macclesfield Society for the Blind and Gawsworth Methodist Ladies Circle.

Cath Hindle, from the council, said there is still time to get your funding application in.

The final round of grants will be allocated at a meeting on Thursday, April 12.
