A woman who died after her car crashed with a bus has been named.

Emily Burgess, 34, was travelling towards Macclesfield along Congleton Road in Gasworth when the horror smash happened.

Her blue Ford Focus collided with a bus about half a mile south of the Harrington Arms pub on Thursday morning.

Emergency services, including a fire engine from Macclesfield, arrived at the scene but she could not be saved and sadly died at the scene.

Emily was from Sandbach.

The accident happened just days before Emily was due to take part in a charity challenge for the Alzheimer’s society.

In a tribute, her family said: “Emily Burgess née Bedford of Sandbach, was a caring, fun and much loved fiancée, step mother, sister, daughter and proud NHS employee. She is greatly missed by all who knew her.

“Her funeral will be held in Cambridge later this month.

“All donations to the Alzheimer’s society, a charity which was dear to her heart, are most gratefully received.”

The collision on the A536 Congleton Road happened at 7.45am on Thursday October 1.

Emily and family members were due to take part in the Liverpool Memory Walk in aid of Alzheimer’s society on October 4.
