Charlie Lawson, better known as ‘Big Jim McDonald’ in hit ITV soap Coronation Street, is aiming for chart glory as he releases his own music single.

The soap star, who runs the Prestbury Village Farm Shop, has recorded his own version of The Dubliners’ hit The Rare Old Mountain Dew and he’s aiming high in the music charts.

The single, recorded alongside fellow actor Daniel Coll, is the theme song of Charlie’s new TV series.

Charlie told the Irish Daily Star he’s aiming for chart success with the cover single. He said: “We aren’t just going for number one, we’re going for a grammy!

“We needed a soundtrack for the series and I remembered from my dark, distant past the Dubliners’ song, and thought it fitted really well.”

True to the form of his Corrie character, Big Jim, and the lyrics of the song, Charlie explains they were inspired to record the track after a couple of drinks.

He said: “If you see the album cover you’ll see a pic of me and Dan very inebriated with what looks like two half pints of water in front of us.

“It was actually Poitin- and that’s how the idea was born.”

Charlie and Daniel’s new TV show, ‘Are We There Yet?’ will see the pair take an epic road trip around Ireland. The 10-part series will also feature Eurovision winner Dana and celebrity Chef Rachel Allen. Charlie and Daniel’s cover is available to download now from Itunes .
