A well-known fundraiser who dedicated the final years of her life to helping East Cheshire Hospice has died from cancer aged 36.

Sarah Shackleton-Lamptey, from Belmont Avenue, Macclesfield, refused to allow her illness stop her raising funds for the charity close to heart.

One of her last acts was to organise a Christmas party which family and friends insist will still go ahead hours after her funeral at Chelford Church next Friday (Dec 19).

Sarah, who worked as an events manager including eight years at Mottram Hall, died in the hospice last Thursday (Dec 4) just three days after she was admitted as an in-patient.

She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2008 and was told she had secondary cancer two years ago.

She started using the Sunflower Centre at East Cheshire Hospice in January 2013 and became such a passionate supporter that she was appointed an ambassador for the charity.

She shared her brave story at several key fundraising events this year, including a summer appeal which raised £15,000.

She is survived by her husband Carl Lamptey, mother Sheila Shackleton and father Carl who ran the family bike shop in Macclesfield.

Husband Carl said: “True to Sarah’s bright and bubbly style has asked all the guests at her funeral to wear bright colours and a hat - she loved hats. Afterwards, we’ll all be going to the Christmas party she organised and all money raised will go the hospice.

“It’s what she’d have wanted.

“She lost her zest for life after the secondary diagnosis but going to the hospice brought back the old Sarah. The hospice staff were brilliant right up until she died.”

Mum Sheila said: “Going to the Sunflower Centre changed Sarah’s life no end and motivated her to do things she’d never done before, like art therapy and meditation. Her positivity was an inspiration to the whole family and we are so proud of her.”
