A list of the top 10 eateries in Macclesfield has championed independent restaurants.

TripAdvisor, a review website, has ranked the top restaurants in the town according to comments and ratings left by customers, and all of those to make the top 10 are independent restaurants.

Out of 151 listed, Rustic Coffee Co., on Churchill Way, holds the top spot, with 145 reviews and a five star ranking.

Co-owners Adam Grimshaw, 41 and Charlie Simpson, 33, have gained a loyal following thanks to their homemade crumpets, described by one reviewer, Elly B, as ‘to die for’.

Adam said: “We have 40 years of catering experience between us, always enjoyed trying out new things and want to share our creations with other people.”

Second favourite is the family-run Cherry Blossom Bakery in Macclesfield’s cobbled Castle Quarter, which also has five stars, plus 147 reviews. Diner Becca3105 described the afternoon tea as ‘incredible’.

In third place is Aquila on King Edward Street, which claims to re-invent informal Italian dining with a Venetian twist.

Stephen Hicks, 43, and Ryan Evans, 32, chef and manage the eatery with the help of apprentice, Harry Thompson, 18.

Ryan said: “We are not a normal restaurant; we want people to come in and eat however they want, drink however they want, and enjoy the informal dining experience.”

Popular for their bistro-style dining experiences are Oliver at Bollington Green and The Chestergate Bistro.

The Cafe Bar at Arighi Bianchi is making Arighi’s as well known for its fabulous food as it is for its furniture. bbrledge says: “The cake stand is just to die for! For lunch, risotto on the specials menu was superb.”

The Peak View Tea Room’s reputation is almost as high as its 1,670ft altitude, serving up spectacular views and home-made food and cakes.

HanaLou91 said of the hilltop haunt: “Fantastic place for a Sunday lunch or a drive into the country mid-week. Food is all made to order and delicious!”

Lunchers also enjoy the salads, sandwiches and soups at Plum’s Kitchen and Turquoise Sandwich Bar.

Double Tree was the only Indian restaurant in the top ten, with comments praising in particular its attentive staff and high quality cuisine.
