Council bosses are seeking a court order to move on travellers who have set up camp in Handforth.

A Cheshire East officer was due at county court yesterday to ask for a repossession order to remove 14 caravans and a motor home from the old Airparks site, next to Tesco at Handforth Dean.

The group arrived on Friday, August 30.

They were served with a council notice to leave by 5pm last Thursday (September 5), but remained on the site.

A spokesman said: “One of our officers will go to court to get the repossession order, with the aim to remove them as soon as possible.”

It comes after another group of travellers parked around 16 caravans at a site on Earl Road at Handforth Dean.

They left on Wednesday, August 28, after being moved on.

A previous unconnected group of three caravans were at the same site for two days before that and another group set up camp there previously, after being moved off council land close to Total Fitness.

There have been calls for better security at open sites and Wilmslow Town Council is discussing the issue with Cheshire East.

Another travellers group with around 20 caravans spent almost two weeks on the playing fields at Wilmslow High School in June before moving to Carnival Fields.
