Plans for Wilmslow’s first ever Christmas market are now official and well underway, according to the town’s business leaders.

Budget problems led to the last-minute cancellation of last year’s fair.

Wilmslow Business Group are now preparing a huge extravaganza, featuring a continental market, skating rink and Santa’s grotto.

There will also be music and celebrity guests courtesy of Imagine FM.

Organisers are looking to hold the market over four days from November 25 to 28, with about 40 stalls outside Sainsbury’s, on Alderley Road and on Parsonage Green between Little Nut Tree Toys and Yang’s restaurant.

At Monday’s business group meeting, organiser Denise Valente said: "We have secured the Christmas continental market.

"We hope this event will help support tradespeople in the town and bring in footfall for businesses."

She said stalls, to run for the full four days, will be self-contained.

"We have also approached businesses on Water Lane to see if they want to renew the Christmas trees in the holders outside the stores and the lights.

"We’re also looking to hold a Santa’s grotto which Hoopers has agreed to create. And we hope to have a whole host of street entertainment including music by Imagine FM, who will be there for the light switch-on, celebrity guests, and an ice rink on Bank Square."

Organisers also aim to run other entertainment through December all the way to Christmas.
