A serial thief has been jailed after breaking into a primary school.

Ashley James Whittaker, 32, burgled Parkroyal Community school on May 4 and stole a safe.

He then targeted a shop three times in two days.

On May 11 he stole meat from the Co-op Late Shop in Macclesfield, returning the same day to steal washing detergent. He returned one last time on May 13 to again steal meat.

At Crewe magistrates court, Whittaker, of Brook Street, Macclesfield, admitted burglary and three charges of theft.

The offences breached the supervision requirement following his release from prison after he had served half of an eight week sentence for an offence of stealing meat joints from the Co-op Late Shop in Macclesfield on January 4.

Magistrates jailed Whittaker for eight weeks for the burglary and four week for the thefts, to be served consecutively.

He also received 14 days for each of the four breaches, to be served consecutively.

The overall sentence is 20 weeks.

Court records show Whittaker has a ‘history of offending’, with 29 convictions for 68 offences.
