Bonfire organisers hope this year’s fireworks go with enough of a bang to beat last year’s charity fundraising total.

Wilmslow Round Table is planning the town’s bonfire and fireworks again this year and all proceeds go towards community events and charity.

Money raised last year helped fund the annual Senior Citizens’ Party at Honford Hall, Handforth.

Stephen Killilea, from the Round Table, presented £5,000 cheques to Peter Forster for Francis House Hospice and Dr Keith Williams for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Mr Killilea said:  “It’s been a successful year with a very well-attended bonfire and generous donations and we are keen for the people of Wilmslow to see how we distribute the money they helped us raise.”

The bonfire on Carnival Field is being run with Imagine FM with fairground rides, hot food and drinks.

There is a free park and ride from Broadway Meadow Car Park next to the Leisure Centre. The event is on Saturday, November 5 from 5.30pm, and the bonfire is lit at 6.30pm.

Tickets cost  £6 child, £8 adult, £23 family and there’s a discount in advance, at £4 child, £6 adult, £18 family. Advance tickets can be bought at wilmslowfireworks.co.uk or from shops. Contact Paul Barney on 07767 311427 or visit the website wilmslowroundtable.co.uk.

Fireworks displays will take place at Alderley Edge Cricket Club, the Drum and Monkey pub and Alderley Edge Community Primary School.

The  cricket club event is on Sunday, November 6, from 4pm with a fun fair, barbecue and bar.  Fireworks start at 6pm and tickets can be bought in advance for £6 adult, £3 child and £17.50 family, or on the door. Contact the club on 01625 584733 or email john.berry@aecc.org.uk

The primary school event is on Saturday, November 5, from 5pm, and the Drum and Monkey on Moss Rose will host its free display from 7pm, with hot food and an outdoor bar.

A camp pop duo and soapstar hunk are coming to Wilmslow to switch on the town’s Christmas lights this year.

Wilmslow Business Group has worked all year on plans for the switch-on and Christmas Festival.

Now organisers have announced that Diva Fever from TVs X Factor and Neighbours star Sam Clark will appear at the switch-on which kick starts the 10-day festival on Friday, November 25.

See next week’s Express for more on the festival.
