A group of art lovers have been successful in their bid to bring part of a Banksy pop-up exhibition to the town.

Street artist Banksy, known for his political satire, opened ‘Dismaland’ as a temporary art project based on a dystopian world, and attracted thousands of visitors during its five week appearance.

Now Macclesfield is to host one of the installations thanks to a successful fundraising campaign by community arts organisation Artspace.

The exhibit, by artist Jimmy Cauty and part of the ‘ADP Riot Tour’, is a 40ft shipping container which houses a miniature depiction of a post-riot landscape.

It will be at the Exchange Square car park from November 15 to 21.

Jane Munro, from the group, said: “I was flabbergasted at the speed at which word got around and the people of Macclesfield decided to support this.

“We really weren’t sure whether we could raise the £2k in a month and are hugely grateful to everyone.

“What’s amazing is that some people who’ve put in a tenner or more said they aren’t even sure they’ll like the work themselves - but they just love the idea of bringing something big, bold and provocative into town.”

Visitors will be able to view the dioramas by looking through spy-holes in the side of the container, created by James Cauty and part of the ADP Riot Tour
