The second man ever to set foot on the moon took a tour of Jodrell Bank.

American engineer and astronaut Buzz Aldrin was part of the first manned lunar landing on Apollo 11 and stepped onto the moon after mission commander Neil Armstrong.

The space crusader, who set a record for extra vehicular activity, showing astronauts could work outside spacecraft, took his first step on the moon’s surface on July 20, 1969, watched by millions.

He was shown around the Lovell Telescope in Macclesfield ahead of an appearance on BBC Stargazing Live on BBC2 last Thursday.

He talked moon landings and the night sky in the programme presented by Professor Brian Cox and Dara O Briain.
