More than 150 cyclists took part in a ride in tribute of tragic teacher Guy Wharton.

The 46-year-old father of three from Bollington died following a collision with a Renault Clio on the A537 Buxton New Road in Macclesfield while cycling on June 7.

Friends, as well as colleagues and students, past and present, from Tytherington School turned out for the 10 mile ride around Bollington in his memory.

The event, which set off from Bailey International Steeplejacks, raised more than £1,700 for Qhubecka, a charity which provides people in third world countries with bikes.

The event called The Ride To Remember was organised by Guy’s friends and former pupils.

Will Kershaw said: “A huge thank you to everyone who helped make it happen, turned up, rode, donated and showed support for a great cause.

“I hope it was the first step for some into a life long love of sport and an eye opener for others as to how lucky we all are to be able spend a beautiful Sunday simply pedaling a bike. Godspeed Guy Wharton.”
