From the town’s tiniest tots...to Hannah Cairns, who could be Macclesfield’s oldest resident.

This party girl, born in Lower Withington in 1903, turned the grand old age of 107 on Monday (March 1) with a celebration at Woodlands Care Home where she lives.

Keen on sewing, bright as a button and excellent at crosswords, she said: "I had a wonderful party, it was marvellous. I have had lots of cards from the Queen and maybe I will get a bunch of flowers off her next year? It would be good if I were the oldest in Macclesfield. I don’t think people will be coming asking for autographs though."

One of eight, Hannah, nee Worth, grew up on a small holding in Siddington and cared for five of her younger siblings when her mother died, including a new born baby brother.

She says the fresh air and the rolling hills of Macclesfield keep the body healthy. Everybody needs to get rid of their cars and start walking, using the buses and riding bikes. That's what we did and that’s helped me stay fit."

Hannah went to school in Siddington and was a big fan of attending services at Siddington Chapel, where her father Willoughby was a verger.

She met met her handsome husband George when she was 21 at a dance at the village hall in Prestbury. They went on to have two have two children, two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, who celebrated her birthday with her.

Carol Bailey, house manager, said: "She had a wonderful party, with 40 guests and lots of reminiscing."
