A festival which has so far raised more than £130,000 for charity returns for the bank holiday weekend.

The Big Weekend - previously named ‘Triplefest’ - takes place at Heaton House in Rushton Spencer over the weekend beginning Saturday, August 29.

It’s run by the Heath Family along with a committee from Rushton Spencer, and includes a huge range of events, including music, fairground rides, a beer festival, demonstrations and a dog show.

Sarah Heath, whose parents Mick and Margaret own Heaton House Farm which is hosting the event, said the name change was brought about to reflect the size of the event, which has grown substantially since it was first run as one-day country fayre in 1993.

Sarah, who works with her parents to run Heaton House Events, said: “ “We feel the name now really reflects the purpose of the event for everyone to come and have a good time .

“We’re already having record ticket sales and we’re looking forward to raising lots for charity”.

This year’s three day event includes a beer festival run by Wincle Beer Company, accompanied by live music from False Alarm, Mother Ukers, Green Hot Clover and Cash 4 Chaos.

There will be plenty of fun for kids with plenty of fairground rides, magic shows, face painting and a visit from Peppa Pig.

There will be a cookery demonstration from last year’s Great British Bake Off winner Luis Troyano, who will be heading to the festival from Poynton.

Antiques expert Adam Partridge, who runs Adam Partridge Auction House in Macclesfeld, will also be there on the day.

He said: “Macclesfield has a fantastic community spirit and I am looking forward to being part of such a major local event supporting several important charities.”

Charities set to benefit from this year’s event include the East Cheshire Hospice, Cancer ResearchUK and the Air Ambulance service.

Other attractions include a variety and comedy show, car boot sale, market stalls and vintage tractors and classic cars.

Ticket prices start from £10 for adults and under 18’s for free.

People can choose to camp for the whole weekend or buy daily tickets.
