Residents are objecting again to a proposal for a restaurant and mini supermarket.

A previous proposal to redevelop the Bayleaf Lounge on Wellington Road, Bollington, and build a new restaurant and Sainsbury’s Local was refused in January, due to traffic concerns. It came after a objections from residents across Bollington.

But the applicant Cheshire Taverns Retirement Benefit Scheme has submitted a new application for a restaurant and food shop, but say Sainsbury’s is not involved in the scheme.

This time the car parking has been increased with the addition of land at the back of Barrows Butchers and the pedestrian crossings include a raised element to reduce speed.

But at a well-attended public meeting at Dean Valley School there was unanimous rejection of the application. Bollington Town Council is sending an objection to Cheshire East council.

Coun Amanda Stott, who has called the application in to a the Northern Planning Committee, said: “Whilst the developers have addressed some of the concerns, they have not addressed the shortfall in parking, the sight lines for cars entering and leaving the very constrained car park, or the safe passage of pedestrians from their cars to the entrance of the store.”

Stephen Price, trustee from Cheshire Taverns Retirement Benefit Scheme, said the application seeks to address concerns.

He said: “It seeks to replace an out-dated, inefficient and defective building with a modern thermally efficient equivalent, carefully considered to respect the local architecture, using existing materials relocated within the site to create a safer access.”
