Adlington Primary school pupils had a second visit from Fabrice Muamba when he officially opened their new defibrillator there.

The former Bolton midfielder who suffered a cardiac arrest while playing in an FA Cup quarter final against Tottenham, visited the school last summer to talk about his career.

Headteacher Polly Broadhurst said: “The children were so moved by his story they decided to fundraise for a defibrillator.

“They have now reached their target of almost £1000 and the defibrillator has been installed on the outside of the building so residents can also benefit from it.”

Fabrice spent the afternoon talking to the children in assembly, cutting the ribbon on the defibrillator and then meeting the School Council.

The community joined in the fundraising through donations and buying raffle tickets for a football he signed.

St Johns Ambulance staff will train all school staff how to use the defibrillator and will also offer training to interested residents.
