The Conservative party is celebrating a clean sweep in the Poynton Town Council elections.

Tory candidates won every place on the council at the expense of the North East Cheshire Independent and Green parties.

In Poynton East ward Les Berry, Laurence Alan Clarke, Charles Arthur Gorst, Tim Holbrook, Rebecca Ann Horsman-Johnson, Geoff King, Howard Murray, Jos Saunders and Mike Sewart were elected.

They had been challenged by a group of disaffected former Tory councillors Gabor Bartos, Tony Hall, Bryan Lewis, and Roger West who had united as a group of independents.

Their failure to get elected was shared with Paul Acton and his wife Gaynor Dyos-Acton, who are on a quest to improve youth services in the town after the suicide of their 16-year-old son Tom.

In Poynton East ward Tories Michael John Beanland, Alex Cropper, Sarah-Jane Gilmore, Andrew Gordon Hall, Ian Hollinworth, Sandra Francis Horsman, Tracey Lorde, Joan Margaret Sewart, Graham Frank Smith, Isabel Clare Thornton-Maddocks and Nicky Wylie all won places. Greens Alex Cropper and Andrew Gordon Hall miss out.
