The Labour Party recognises the need to revitalise Macclesfield Town centre following the unsuccessful development which has blighted areas of the town.

We need public support for local private development rather than grandiose long term plans that never work.

There are many buildings in the centre of town which can be renovated and brought back into use.

Macclesfield’s Labour Borough councillors will work positively with the new Town Council to expand and improve the cultural, heritage and entertainment services provided by the Silk Heritage Trust. Independent retailers are to be encouraged into the town and heritage buildings to be improved. We need a local economy that meets local needs.

Labour will work towards more in-town living with support to create residential units above the shops. Redevelopment of the redundant brownfield sites in and around Macclesfield for affordable housing. We will support the Town Council as it works to create a Neighbourhood Plan which will enable local people to influence planning decisions. Labour councillors will retain sufficient Town Centre parking and push for a comprehensive traffic plan concentrating on improving traffic flow and providing on street and off street parking.

We value the NHS and wish to ensure people’s needs are met, particularly the elderly in need of care, and children who require support for a good start in life. Labour will work to retain local authority delivery of health and social care services, keeping them all ‘in house’ and increase support for mental health services.

Liberal Democrats

Bollington - Andrew Haldane, Shirley Sockett

Chelford - Roger Barlow

Macclesfield East - David Neilson

Hurdsfield - Stephen Broadhead

Poynton East and Pott Shrigley - Adrian Bedson

Liberal Democrats want Cheshire East to have a more open and democratic council where major decisions should be taken by all councillors in full council, not in a cabinet with no opposition members able to vote.

Liberal Democrats would focus on cutting wasteful spending not valued services.

Key areas of concern are:

1. The Macclesfield plan. This is the most important issue for Macclesfield Liberal Democrats. We all need places to work rest and play. The new plan needs to protect our town from urban sprawl from Manchester and preserve the green belt. The many brown field sites in the town must be developed first. There is a need to provide homes for all, not just the well off. Improvements to the town centre are needed. Land also needs allocated for industry and supporting small business.

2. Elderly care and dementia services. These need to be protected and improved. We support the retention of Hollins View. The Liberal Democrats on Cheshire East have consistently been at the forefront against this and other closures.

3. Children services. We need to continue to provide the very best for children in the care of the local authority, giving them the support and skills to live an independent life in adulthood. 4. Highways maintenance. The roads around Macclesfield need to be better maintained. investment in pot hole repair and new road surfaces are required.

The local elections on 7th May matter for Macclesfield because a Conservative Council has delivered over the last four-year term, and has the necessary plans to improve further the local economy and make Macclesfield an even better place in which to live and work.

WE HAVE

l The lowest level of unemployment in the last decade, now at circa one per cent;

l Delivered a Council Tax freeze for the last five years with a sixth promised;

l Worked with local businesses, such as Astra Zeneca in Hurdsfield to create high-value jobs;

l Restructured and transformed local services resulting in greater efficiency and genuine savings;

l Some of the highest-performing schools in the country.

WE WILL

l Actively continue to help deliver Macclesfield’s potential as a prime visitor destination;

l Propose purchasing Paradise Mill;

Green Party candidates for Cheshire East Council, if elected, promise to do our best to reduce pollution, save energy, and improve social justice. We will be listening to voters and representing their concerns.

Local councils’ spending power has been slashed by national government policies, and the Green Party thinks they should be better funded.

However, elected Green Party councillors up and down the country are contributing to local initiatives inspired by Green policies. Green councillors move council budgets toward a future that is fair on people, fair on the planet.

A brief policy round-up: We want Macclesfield to become an even better place to live.

We will work to preserve and enhance green spaces, and to remove and prevent litter and mess throughout the town.

We will encourage local schools to work together, and reduce pressure on pupils to jump through unnecessary hoops.

Green councillors will press for better services for older people and disadvantaged people.

We will press the council to keep public services within the council, and to pay council employees a living wage.

There are 30 Green Party candidates for Cheshire East Council. The more of us you elect, the more we can work together for change.

Please think seriously about voting Green – this election will challenge the old order propped up by the first-past-the-post two-party system. Vote for the party you really support, and you will – at least – send the Green message to the people in power.

And at best, together YOU CAN get Green councillors elected.

UKIP

Macclesfield Central – Adrian Howard

Macclesfield South – Jane Leigh

Macclesfield West and Ivy – Martin Ault

Broken Cross and Upton – David Langley

Prestbury – John Davies

Gawsworth – Alistair Goodwin

Hurdsfield – Timothy Cooper

UKIP are unique in local government. Our Councillors are not controlled by a party whip, we are encouraged to represent the needs of those who vote for us.

Around the country, we’re giving people and communities what they deserve – more power for local people and more say over what happens in their local community.

Council funding needs an urgent review. We must protect the services that the most vulnerable people in the community rely on, prevent developers from concreting over the countryside, protect our pensioners, look after our veterans and help our young people seeking work. We all come from different walks of life and understand the communities we wish to represent. If elected, we will work to:

l Tackle anti-social acts like littering and dog fouling.

l Renew our damaged roads and infrastructure.

l Provide for the needs of our growing elderly population.

l Scrap car parking charges at hospitals in Cheshire East.

l Support town centre regeneration and initiatives to ensure empty shops are reoccupied.

l Keep down car parking charges and introduce limited free car parking in the town centre.

l Put our police force back on the beat.

l Scrap the Bedroom Tax.

l Prioritise local people in the allocation of social housing.

l Support and increase funding for local hospital and hospice services.

l Reduce bureaucratic waste in public services.

Our team of candidates want to improve democracy, save taxpayers’ money, roll up our sleeves, work hard and serve the community.
