General Election candidates face a nervous wait tonight to find out who will be named the next MP for Macclesfield.

Polling stations remain open until 10pm and the count is due to start at Macclesfield Leisure Centre at 2am.

We’ll bring you updates from the count so keep an eye on the website for our live blog.

The five Parliamentary candidates hoping to become Macclesfield MP are Conservative David Rutley, Tim Roca from Labour, Neil Christian from the Liberal Democrats, Adrian Howard from UKIP and the Green Party’s Joan Plimmer.

Mr Rutley will be aiming to win back the seat he took at the 2010 election, in the constituency which has had a Tory MP since 1918.

The count for the Tatton constituency will take place at the same time, when Conservative George Osborne hopes to retain the seat he first claimed in 2001.

His opponents are Labour candidate David Pinto-Duschinsky, Gareth Wilson, from the Liberal Democrats, the Green Party’s Tina Rothery and UKIP candidate Stuart Hutton.

We’ll also have updates of what’s happening around the country. Join us at 2am.
