Carers are concerned they will not be able to access respite care in Macclesfield after the council revealed which homes will provide care when Hollins View shuts.

Cheshire East has announced that private care homes Weston Park, on Moss Lane, Macclesfield, and Lyme Green Hall, on London Road, Sutton, will be two of the 15 care homes across the borough to provide council respite care when Hollins View shuts at the end of the year.

Lincoln House in Crewe will also shut.

There will only be 19 pre-bookable respite beds across the borough, compared to the 72 beds which have been available at Hollins View, Lincoln House and Mountview in Congleton, which has already shut.

There will be an emergency bed in Tabley House in Knutsford and Mayfield House in Crewe.

The council has not confirmed how many beds will be available in Macclesfield.

Hollins View is closing despite a campaign by the Express and service users to keep it open.

The changes affect people referred by the council for respite care.

The council will continue to meet all or part of the cost of the care.

Jean Bennett, whose dad Clifford Ogden goes to Hollins View, said: “This is a massive reduction in beds and it’s a serious concern that people will not be able to access care in Macclesfield when they need it.

“We need to know how many beds will be provided in Macclesfield.

“The council said the changes were to give people access to care locally, but if people don’t like the choice of homes in Macclesfield they will have go elsewhere.

“My dad loves going to Hollins View and it’s sad that it’s closing.”

A council spokesman said the 15 care homes will provide more than enough beds to meet demand and that users of Hollins View have been supported through a reassessment of their needs.

He also said a subsidy which previously applied to fees for care had stopped, adding: “This was one of the changes to the council’s charging policy which had been subject to consultation earlier this year.”
